In the year 1948 at Jabalpur, a small town in Madhya Pradesh, a child took birth to be named as Ajay. His inclination towards music was natural as at the age of ten when other children of his age were fond of playing, Ajay was deeply engrossed in exploring the intricacies of ragas. It was destined to be so since his mother, Dr.Smt. Sumeet Pohankar of Kirana Gharana groomed her child. He was fortunate to have occasional interactions with the great Ustad Amir Khan too.
Pt. Ajay Pohankar, as he is known today, is the most sought out artistes for his deep involvement and aesthetically well structured presentation of notes in whatever form the composition is set. Bestowed with rich melodious voice with full command over modulation, his singing reflects the maturity woven with wide range of emotions he creates in his listeners. Be it an aesthetic élan pertaining to the Indian Classical music, devotional appeal for the divine or experimentation with various musical aspects, Pt. Ajay Pohankar has created his niche in all the fields.

Pandit Samaresh Chowdhury is one of very few distinguished, younger generation classical vocalists of our time. Polished as it is, his vocal technique is primarily a testament to the rigorous training and grooming of his early years. Son of the famous “Sangeetacharya” (an honorific title for great accomplishment in music) the late Amaresh Chowdhury, Samaresh Chowdhury began his early training under the strict supervision of his illustrious father.

Later, he entered into pupilage with the world-famous sitar maestro Pandit Ravi Shankar who swiftly recognised his talent and deep commitment to classical music. His ability to bring a refined freshness and spontaneity to raags that have already been sung thousands of times over hundreds of years, made Samaresh Chowdhury, with is extraordinary range and control over the octaves, stand out for listeners and critics, alike.

Shruti Sādolikar (Shruti Sādolikar-Kātkar) is a classical music singer of the Jaipur-Atrauli Gharānā.

Shruti hails from Mahārāshtra. At her early age, she started learning classical music from her father, Pandit Wāmanrāo Sādolikar, who was a disciple of the Jaipur-Atrauli Gharana founder, Ustad Alladiya Khan, and his son Ustad Bhurji Khan. Shruti then trained for twelve more years under Ustad Gullubhāi Jasdanwāllā, who was renowned for his repository of rare compositions and complex Ragas of the Jaipur-Atrauli Gharānā. Jayateerth Mevundi hails from the land of great vocalists and maestros of Hindustani Classical Music, like Pt. Bhimsen Joshi, Dr. (Mrs.) Gangubai Hangal, Pt. Mallikarjun Mansur, Pt. Basavraj Rajguru and Pt. Kumar Gandharva and so on. Born in the year 1972, Jayateerth, according to many connoisseurs and critics of Hindustani Classical Music, is considered to be a torchbearer of Kirana Gharana.

Jayateerth received his initial training in music under the tutelage of Sangeet Ratna Pt. Arjunsa Nakod of Gwalior Gharana for about 10 years. Since the year 1994 on wards he has been receiving musical lessons under the able guidance of Pt. Shripati Padegar, who is a disciple of great vocalist of this country, Pt. Bhimsen Joshi of Kirana Gharana.

Hailing from Dharwad, Karnataka, Nachiketa Sharma was initiated into Hindustani classical vocal music by his parents. His formal study began in Madras under Shri B. N. Simha and later under Shri B. Hanumantachar. His rigorous and extended pedagogy came under the virtuoso late Padmabhushan Pandit Basavraj Rajguru. Nachiketa has performed in several cities across India and the United States. He is a resident of the San Francisco Bay Area and runs the Rajguru Sangeet Vidyaniketan school of music.

Kushal Das, a north Indian solo sitarist was born to a highly enriched musical family of Calcutta. His grandfather Late Bimal Ch. Das was a renowned Esraj player while his father Shri Sailen Das (a deciple of Pt. Ravi Shankar) and uncle Sri Santanu Das (a deciple of Ustad Ali Akbar Khan) are sitarist-s of high repute.

Kushal started his talim from the age of six. He received intensive and rigorous training in advanced sitar techniques and the art of music making under the affectionate guidance of Prof. Sanjoy Bandopadhyay, the renowned sitar maestro and academician. "Kaushiki Chakrabarty is one of the very few classical vocalists who will make a mark in the 21st century...." This was the assessment made by Bhimsen Joshi, one of India's greatest classical vocalists of the modern era.

Born in 1980 in the campus of Sangeet Research Academy, Kolkata, Kaushiki Chakrabarty is now a scholar of this great centre of lndian Cultural learning. The gurus of the Academy repose a great hope in Kaushiki and have blessed her for a glorious musical future.

Kaushiki's mother, Chandna Chakrabarty was her first guru noting that she could reproduce virtually any musical and rhythmic phrase when she was only two years old. Kaushiki then became a "ganda-bandh" shagird (disciple) of her father's guru, Jnan Prakash Ghosh, according to India's ancient system of guru-shishya parampara. On account of the old age of her guru and with his consent, she resumed her training under her father, Pandit Ajoy Chakrabarty.

Sri Venkateshkumar hails from Lakshmipura, a hamlet in the Bellary District. Born and brought up in a rural ambience with ancestral folk tradition was strongly influenced by his father, a renowned folk artist. Impressed by his genuine dedication to music, Pandit Puttaraja Gawai tutored him in the Gurukula system and he has effectively inherited the Gwalior gharana with all its nuances. He has authored the text book of Music prescribed for the Examination conducted by the Govt. of Karnataka. At present Sri Venkateshkumar is serving as a faculty member at Music College, Dharwad University and teaches Music to degree classes.

Choosing Hasanagi, a little village nestled in Uttara Kannada district over big-time Bangalore to set up a music academy, and giving Hindustani classical music lessons as 'vidya daan' rather than charging a fee, is the famed Pandit Basavaraj Rajguru disciple — Pandit Ganapati Bhat Hasanagi.

Rajguru accepted Panditji as a 'shishya' only after a six-month observation period: Panditji had casually walked from across his room into Rajguru's home to ask this. Rajguru never took a fee. But being a 'shishya' meant learning music only when the 'guru' taught and lugging around Rajguru's giant pot of drinking water from his hometown Dharwad on his concert tours!

At his Gurukul, 15 students learn music living with him like family; poor students are given scholarships. A advocate of the 'guru-shishya parampara', he says: "No performing art can be achieved in a classroom or university system of teaching."
